Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to finish and is more extensive in scope. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate also. One thing to bear in mind is that Dania FL radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It may typically be fulfilled by participating in an internship or externship program which many colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification mandates in Florida or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, depending on the state where you will be employed you might have to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but many approve additional alternatives for testing also. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. However, numerous Dania FL employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might increase your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every 2 years, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Clinical training is typically performed in regional hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online section of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Dania FL residence. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree usually discover that the online approach to learning is far more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are frequently cheaper than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But just confirm that the online program you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the ideal option for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

After you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of locating and assessing Dania FL x-ray tech schools. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be an important factor also. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? Most xray tech schools have acquired some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive review of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Dania FL health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the Florida radiology technician programs you are interested in have partnerships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to obtain hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional relationships in the Dania FL healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Dania FL healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they select will need to be within travelling distance of their Dania FL residence. Those who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Dania FL colleges you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the radiographer  school you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Dania FL, make certain that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

Some Background on Dania Florida

Dania Beach, Florida

Dania Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 29,639.[7] It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census. Dania Beach is the location of one of the largest jai alai frontons in the United States, The Casino at Dania Beach.[8] It was formerly the location for two amusement centers; one named Boomers! (formerly Grand Prix Race-O-Rama), which housed the Dania Beach Hurricane roller coaster, and the other being Pirate's World amusement park, which was featured in Barry Mahon's Thumbelina. It is also former home to the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum.

The area was started as a neighborhood called Modello in the late 19th century.[9]

In November 1904, the area was incorporated as the town of Dania, because most of the 35 residents were farmers of Danish ancestry.[9]

On January 4, 1926, Dania voted to annex itself to the City of Hollywood.

After the September 1926 Miami hurricane decimated Hollywood’s fortunes, most of Dania seceded from the City of Hollywood and reincorporated as a city.[1][10] The areas that chose to remain part of the City of Hollywood caused Dania's current noncontinuous city boundaries.
