Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, usually takes 18 months to two years to complete based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. Most students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be appropriate as well. One thing to consider is that Davenport FL radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It can often be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of schools offer through local hospitals and clinics in their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Florida or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

After you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, based on the state where you will be working you might have to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so contact your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number approve additional options for testing also. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. However, numerous Davenport FL employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it could enhance your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their rigorous exam. Practical training is often conducted in local hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online section of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Davenport FL residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree typically find that the online approach to education is far more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online schools are often more affordable than conventional alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be decreased as well. But just be sure that the online school you enroll in is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the best choice for you.

Questions to Ask X Ray Tech Colleges

After you have decided on the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of finding and evaluating Davenport FL x-ray technician schools. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a material variable also. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you factor in when reviewing schools? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? Most radiology technician colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous examination of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Davenport FL health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the Florida xray technician colleges you are assessing have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to obtain hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional connections in the Davenport FL medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without assistance. Find out if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Davenport FL healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they select will need to be within driving distance of their Davenport FL home. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Davenport FL colleges you are reviewing what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  college you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Davenport FL, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's important to reflect on questions you could be asked. Some Background on Davenport Florida

Davenport, Florida

Davenport is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,888 at the 2010 census.[6] While the city of Davenport itself is very small, the area north of the city close to Interstate 4 and US 27 is experiencing explosive growth. It is part of the Lakeland–Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. The current mayor is Darlene Bradley, who is serving from 2015 to 2017.[7] In December 2017, Mayor Bradley was arrested on a host of charges including use of a false identity.[8]

The settlement in the area now known as Davenport was established in 1838 when the U.S. military set up Fort Davenport during the Second Seminole War, about 12 miles north of the present site of Davenport. The fort was one of a number built at 20 mile intervals along a trail from Fort Brooke to Fort Mellon. The fort only lasted a few years.[9] The fort was named for Colonel William Davenport, who served as the local U.S. commander in the war.[10] There is no known documentary evidence to support an alternative claim that the city was named for a railroad conductor.[10][11]

The modern city of Davenport had its start in the 1880s when the South Florida Railroad was extended to that point.[12] The settlement was first known as Horse Creek, for the creek first recorded on a U.S. Army survey of 1849 which flows past the site to enter Snell Creek and eventually Lake Hatchineha in the Kissimmee River system.[13] A post office was established at Horse Creek in 1884, and the name of the post office was changed to Davenport in 1886.[10][14] Davenport was incorporated in 1915.[1]

The South Florida Railroad opened a station half a mile north of the present site of the city. In 1926 it was replaced by a new station in the downtown area. It was closed in the 1970s. From 1958 to 1986 there was a second station, the Vertagreen Railroad Station, opened only for the transportation of fertiliser and not for public use.[15]

Davenport is located at 28°09′38″N 81°36′10″W / 28.160530°N 81.602651°W / 28.160530; -81.602651.[16] Davenport is located within the Central Florida Highlands area of the Atlantic coastal plain with a terrain consisting of flatland interspersed with gently rolling hills.[17]
