They can also be called radiologic technologists, radiologic technicians, radiology technicians or radiographers. Irrespective of the name, they all have the identical fundamental job description, which is to use imaging machines to internally view patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. A number of radiologic technologists may also administer radiation therapy for treating cancer. Some choose to work as generalists, while there are those that have chosen a specialty, for example mammography. They may work in Camarillo CA hospitals, clinics, family practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray tech might utilize include:
- Traditional and specialized X-Rays
- Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans

- Sonography or ultrasound
- Fluoroscopy
Radiographers have to maintain their equipment and also regularly assess its functionality and safety. They are also expected to keep detailed records of each of their diagnostic procedures. As Camarillo CA health practitioners, they are held to a high professional standard and code of conduct.
Radiology Tech Degrees
The primary requirement for attending an x-ray tech college is to have received a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally requires 18 months to two years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to finish and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are acceptable as well. One thing to bear in mind is that Camarillo CA radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can often be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any licensing or certification mandates in California or the state you will be working as applicable.
Radiologic Technologist Licensing and Certification
After you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, based on the state where you will be working you might need to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number provide additional options for testing as well. Some states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. However, many Camarillo CA employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it could improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.
Online Radiology Technologist Colleges
As a component of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So while you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Practical training is often performed in area hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. But the online segment of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Camarillo CA residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree often discover that the online approach to learning is much more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are often cheaper than on-campus alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just confirm that the online school you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the best choice for you.
Points to Ask Radiology Tech Schools
As soon as you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of finding and evaluating Camarillo CA x-ray technician colleges. You will also need to determine if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and secondary expenditures will be an important variable as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you look at when comparing schools? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these essential details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are reviewing.
Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology technician colleges have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive review of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Camarillo CA employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level jobs.
Are Internships Sponsored? Inquire if the California radiology tech schools you are reviewing have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great manner to receive practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Camarillo CA healthcare community and assist with job placement.
Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without support. Find out if the radiographer programs you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Camarillo CA healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.
Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Camarillo CA home. Individuals who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.
What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit far in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Camarillo CA colleges you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program as well.
Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the x-ray tech program you ultimately choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Camarillo CA, confirm that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

Some Background on Camarillo California
Camarillo, California
Camarillo (/ˌkæməˈriːoʊ/ KAM-ə-REE-oh) is a city in Ventura County in the U.S. state of California. The population was 65,201 at the 2010 census, up from 57,084 at the 2000 census. The Ventura Freeway (U.S. Route 101) is the city's primary thoroughfare. Camarillo is named for Adolfo and Juan Camarillo, two of the few Californios (pre-1848 California natives of Hispanic ancestry) to preserve the city's heritage after the arrival of Anglo settlers. The railroad coast route came through in 1898 and built a station here. Adolfo Camarillo eventually employed 700 workers growing mainly lima beans. Walnuts and citrus were also grown on the ranch. Adolfo bred Camarillo White Horses in the 1920s through the 1960s and was well known for riding them, dressed in colorful Spanish attire, in parades such as the Fiesta of Santa Barbara.
The city grew slowly prior to World War II but the war effort saw the construction of the Oxnard Army Air Field (later Oxnard Air Force Base in 1951, now Camarillo Airport) to the west of town. The community also grew as the new base along with nearby Naval Air Station Point Mugu and a Seabee base at Port Hueneme brought many workers and their families to the area. The grounds of Camarillo State Hospital, which opened in 1936 south of town, are now the campus of California State University, Channel Islands.
As with most cities in Ventura County, it is noted for its resistance to new development.[11] In 2014, the council voted against an 895-acre project that would have extended development on agricultural lands east towards the Conejo Grade.[12]
Camarillo is located at 34°14′N 119°2′W / 34.233°N 119.033°W / 34.233; -119.033 (34.2256, −119.0322).[13] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.5 square miles (51 km2). 0.015 square miles (0.039 km2) of the area (0.08%) is water.
Camarillo is located in Pleasant Valley[14] at the eastern end of the Oxnard Plain, with the Santa Susana Mountains to the north, the Camarillo Hills to the northwest, the Conejo Valley to the east, and the western reaches of the Santa Monica Mountains to the south.
