An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, usually requires 18 months to two years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to complete and is more expansive in scope. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that are appropriate also. One thing to bear in mind is that Winneconne WI radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing requirements in Wisconsin or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Most states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so contact your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number offer additional options for testing also. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Winneconne WI employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. But just make sure that the online school you enroll in is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online degree may be the best option for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

When you have decided on the type of degree that you want to earn, you can initiate the process of looking for and assessing Winneconne WI x-ray tech colleges. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you look at when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology tech schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed examination of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Winneconne WI employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the Wisconsin xray tech schools you are reviewing have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to receive hands on training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates form professional relationships in the Winneconne WI medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the radiographer schools you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Winneconne WI healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Winneconne WI residence. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Winneconne WI colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the x-ray tech  program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Winneconne WI, confirm that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

When preparing to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's helpful to reflect on questions you could be asked. Among the things that recruiters often ask radiographer prospects is "What made you select radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is hoping to learn is not merely the personal reasons you might have for becoming an X-Ray tech, but also what attributes and talents you possess that make you good at your profession. You will probably be asked questions relating specifically to radiography, as well as a certain number of routine interview questions, so you must prepare several strategies about how you want to address them.
