They can work in Quapaw OK clinics, hospitals, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray technologist may utilize include:
- Traditional and specialized X-Rays
- Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans

Radiographers must take care of their equipment and also routinely analyze its performance and safety. They are additionally expected to retain in-depth records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As Quapaw OK health practitioners, they must adhere to a code of conduct and a high professional standard.
X-Ray Tech Degree Options
The primary requirement for attending an x-ray tech program is to have earned a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as four years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are acceptable as well. One thing to bear in mind is that Quapaw OK radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can typically be fulfilled by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Oklahoma or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.
Radiographer Licensing and Certification
When you have graduated from an Radiologist college, depending on the state where you will be employed you may need to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their criteria differ so check with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number provide additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, many Quapaw OK employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it may enhance your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.
Online Radiology Technologist Programs
As a part of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree programs. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a substantial amount of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is usually provided in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online section of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Quapaw OK home. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually find that the online approach to learning is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online colleges are generally cheaper than traditional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be reduced as well. But just make sure that the online program you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the ideal option for you.
Points to Ask Radiology Tech Colleges
When you have decided on the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of searching for and assessing Quapaw OK x-ray tech colleges. You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be important. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable also. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you look at when evaluating colleges? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are assessing.
Are the Radiology Technician Colleges Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Quapaw OK health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level openings.
Are Internships Sponsored? Find out if the Oklahoma radiology technician programs you are interested in have relationships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent means to obtain practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional relationships in the Quapaw OK medical community and assist with job placement.
Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without support. Ask if the radiographer programs you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Quapaw OK healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.
Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Quapaw OK home. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.
What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Quapaw OK schools you are reviewing what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program as well.
Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the x-ray tech program you finally pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Quapaw OK, check that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Some Background on Quapaw Oklahoma
Quapaw
The Quapaw (or Arkansas and Ugahxpa) people are a tribe of Native Americans that coalesced in the Midwest and Ohio Valley. The Siouan-speaking tribe historically migrated from the Ohio Valley area to the west side of the Mississippi River and resettled in what is now the state of Arkansas; their name for themselves refers to this migration and traveling downriver. [3] Europeans first learned their name as the Arkansea, the term used by the Algonquian-speaking Illinois Confederation traders encountered to the east. They named the territory and state of Arkansas for them.
The Quapaw are federally recognized as the Quapaw Tribe of Indians. They were removed to Indian Territory in 1834, and their tribal base has been in present-day Ottawa County in northeastern Oklahoma. The number of members enrolled in the tribe is 3,240.[1]
The Quapaw Tribe of Native Americans are headquartered in Quapaw in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, in the northeast corner of the state. They have a 13,000-acre (53 km2) Quapaw tribal jurisdictional area.
The Quapaw people elect a tribal council and the tribal chairman, who serves a two-year term. The governing body of the tribe is outlined in the governing resolutions of the tribe, which were voted upon and approved in 1956 to create a written form of government (prior to 1956 the Quapaw Tribe operated on a hereditary chief system).[4] The Chairman is John L. Berrey.[1] Of the 3,240 enrolled tribal members, 892 live in the state of Oklahoma. Membership in the tribe is based on lineal descent.[5]
The tribe operates a Tribal Police Department and a Fire Department, which handles both fire and EMS calls. They issue their own tribal vehicle tags and have their own housing authority.[1]
