Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to finish and is more expansive in nature. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable as well. One thing to consider is that Helendale CA radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. Most states do require licensing, and their criteria vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number approve other alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Helendale CA employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may enhance your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.
Online Radiology Technician Schools

So while you can still obtain your degree online, a large amount of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an internship off campus. Practical training is usually performed in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Helendale CA residence. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually find that the online approach to learning is far more practical with their hectic schedules. But just confirm that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the right option for you.
Topics to Ask Radiology Tech Schools
As soon as you have chosen the type of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of searching for and evaluating Helendale CA x-ray tech schools. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be an important factor also. But along with cost and location, what else should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to check out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are reviewing.
Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of xray technician colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive examination of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Helendale CA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level openings.
Are Internships Provided? Find out if the California radiology tech schools you are assessing have relationships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific means to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the Helendale CA health care community and help with obtaining employment.
Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Helendale CA healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and sought after.
Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Helendale CA home. Those who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.
How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Helendale CA schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.
Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Helendale CA, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
Why Did You Desire to Be an Xray Technician? When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's important to reflect on questions you could be asked. One of the things that recruiters often ask radiographer prospects is "What made you choose radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is trying to learn is not only the private reasons you may have for becoming a radiology technician, but also what characteristics and abilities you possess that make you outstanding at what you do. You will likely be asked questions relating primarily to radiography, as well as a certain number of general interview questions, so you must prepare a number of approaches about how you would like to address them. Since there are so many factors that go into choosing a career, you can address this primary question in a multitude of ways. When preparing an answer, aim to include the reasons the work appeals to you along with the abilities you have that make you an outstanding X-Ray tech and the perfiect candidate for the job. Don't attempt to memorize a response, but jot down several concepts and topics that pertain to your own experiences and strengths. Reading through sample responses can help you to prepare your own concepts, and provide ideas of what to include to enthuse the recruiter.

Some Background on Helendale California
Helendale or Silver Lakes is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in the Victor Valley of the Mojave Desert, within San Bernardino County, California.
It is on historic Route 66, west of the Mojave Freeway (I-15), between Barstow and Victorville. The name Helendale is used by the USPS, while Silver Lakes is used by the US Census. The 2010 United States census reported Silver Lakes's population was 5,623.
Several Native American tribes lived in the area, namely the Mojave and Serrano. It is believed that the first White man to travel through was the Franciscan priest Francisco Garcés in 1776. He was exploring a route to the missions on the Coast following the Mojave River.
The original name for Helendale was Point of Rocks. There were several early trails and roadways through this area of the Mojave Desert, including the Mojave Trail, which was used by the Indians and Father Garcés, the Spanish Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, the Mormon Trail, et cetera.
After Father Garcés, Jedediah Smith traveled through the Point of Rocks area in 1826 on a fur trapping expedition. In 1844, John C. Frémont and his guide, Kit Carson, traveled through heading east via the Cajon Pass. During the Mexican–American War, in late 1846 or early 1847, the Mormon Battalion camped at Point of Rocks on their way to Los Angeles. They were released from the military shortly afterward and part of the battalion returned to Salt Lake City through Point of Rocks.
