Regardless of the name, they all have the same major job function, which is to use imaging machines to internally visualize patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. Some radiologic technologists may also administer radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. Some choose to work as generalists, while others may choose a specialty, for example mammography. They may practice in Ben Lomond CA hospitals, clinics, family practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray tech may work with include:
- Traditional and specialized X-Rays
- Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans

- Fluoroscopy
Radiographers must maintain their equipment and routinely analyze its functionality and safety. They are also required to keep detailed records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As Ben Lomond CA health practitioners, they are held to a high professional standard and code of conduct.
Radiology Tech Degrees
The primary prerequisite for attending a radiology tech college is to have attained a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that are acceptable as well. Something to bear in mind is that Ben Lomond CA radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may typically be fulfilled by taking part in an externship program which many colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing mandates in California or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.
Radiologic Technologist Licensing and Certification
Once you have graduated from an Radiologist college, depending on the state where you will be working you may need to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their prerequisites differ so check with your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several provide additional options for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Ben Lomond CA employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every two years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.
Online X-Ray Technician Colleges
As a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree programs. So although you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Clinical training is typically provided in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online portion of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Ben Lomond CA home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree often find that the online approach to education is far more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online colleges are frequently less expensive than traditional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be decreased also. But just make certain that the online program you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online school may be the best option for you.
Points to Ask Radiographer Colleges
Once you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of finding and evaluating Ben Lomond CA x-ray tech colleges. You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But along with cost and location, what else should you factor in when evaluating schools? Well, you should check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are looking at.
Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of xray technician colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Ben Lomond CA employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level openings.
Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Ask if the California xray technician colleges you are interested in have partnerships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great manner to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional relationships in the Ben Lomond CA medical community and assist with obtaining employment.
Is Job Placement Help offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Ben Lomond CA healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.
Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will have to be within driving distance of their Ben Lomond CA home. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.
How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Ben Lomond CA colleges you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray tech program also.
Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the radiographer college you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Ben Lomond CA, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

Ben Lomond, California
Ben Lomond is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States, and also the name of the mountain to the west. The population was 6,234 at the 2010 census.
The mountain was named by John Burns, a Scot who settled on the west side of the ridge in 1851. Burns named the mountain after one in Scotland. Ben Lomond means "beacon peak" in Gaelic. Burns became one of the first vintners in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and is usually also credited with naming the community of Bonny Doon. The San Lorenzo River watershed contains extensive forests of Coast redwood, and was an early center of the logging/lumber industry in Santa Cruz County. The community was originally known as Pacific Mills, after a sawmill operation located there. When, in 1887, the community applied for a U.S. Post Office, residents voted to adopt the name of the mountain.[3]
Ben Lomond is located on State Highway 9, about 12 miles from Santa Cruz, California and 34 miles from San Jose, California (the nearest major city) at 37°5′24″N 122°5′24″W / 37.09000°N 122.09000°W / 37.09000; -122.09000 (37.09, -122.09).[4] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.4 square miles (22 km2). The San Lorenzo River runs through it, in what is known locally as the San Lorenzo Valley, which runs SE/NW to the east of Ben Lomond Mountain (really a long ridge whose highest point has an elevation of 810m/2660 ft).
Loch Lomond is a reservoir built on Newell Creek.
