At present, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but many provide additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. Points to Ask X Ray Tech Colleges

As soon as you have selected the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of locating and evaluating Fordyce AR x-ray tech schools. You will also have to decide if you want to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining factor also. But along with cost and location, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details prior to making your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? Most xray tech colleges have earned some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the college is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Fordyce AR health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Ask if the Arkansas xray tech programs you are reviewing have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent means to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help students and graduates develop professional connections in the Fordyce AR healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Fordyce AR healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will need to be within commuting distance of their Fordyce AR residence. Those who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Fordyce AR schools you are reviewing what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the x-ray tech  program you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Fordyce AR, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
