But first, let’s discuss what a radiology tech does and the degrees and training choices that are available.

X-Ray Tech Degrees

Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, normally takes 18 months to two years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to four years to complete and is more expansive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are acceptable also. One thing to consider is that Batesville AR radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can often be satisfied by taking part in an externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification mandates in Arkansas or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Licensing and Certification

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, based on the state where you will be working you might have to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their criteria vary so get in touch with your state. Presently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but a number approve other alternatives for testing also. Some states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Batesville AR employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it might increase your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also calls for re-certification every two years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Classes

attending x-ray tech school online in Batesville 72501As a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree schools. So while you can still obtain your online degree, a substantial portion of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often provided in area family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online segment of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your Batesville AR home. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually find that the online style of education is much more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online colleges are often less expensive than conventional options. In addition to lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials may be reduced as well. But just make certain that the online college you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the best choice for you.

Points to Ask Radiographer Schools

After you have decided on the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of locating and assessing Batesville AR x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be relevant. The price of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when reviewing schools? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? The majority of xray technician schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed examination of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Batesville AR health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the Arkansas xray tech programs you are reviewing have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to obtain hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Batesville AR health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without assistance. Find out if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Batesville AR healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the school they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Batesville AR residence. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Batesville AR colleges you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  college you ultimately select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Batesville AR, check that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

Why Did You Decide to Be a Radiology Technician?

When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's a good idea to reflect on questions you could be asked. What the interviewer is trying to uncover is not just the personal reasons you might have for being an Xray technician, but also what qualities and skills you have that make you outstanding at what you do. You will likely be asked questions pertaining primarily to radiography, along with a certain number of routine interview questions, so you need to prepare some ideas about how you want to address them. Because there are several factors that go into choosing a career, you can address this primary question in a variety of ways. Some Background on Batesville Arkansas

Batesville, Arkansas

Batesville is the county seat and largest city of Independence County, Arkansas, United States,[3] 80 miles (183 km) northeast of Little Rock, the state capital. According to the 2010 Census, the population of the city was 10,248.[4] The city serves as a regional manufacturing and distribution hub for the Ozark Mountain region and northeast Arkansas.

Batesville is the oldest City in the state of Arkansas. It was named for the first territorial delegate from Arkansas to the Congress of the United States, James Woodson Bates, who settled in the town. The town has also gone by the names of Napoleon and Poke Bayou.

In early days, Batesville was an important port on the White River and served as an entry point to the interior of northern Arkansas. Batesville played a large role in the settling of the Ozark Mountains region and served as the central land office for northern Arkansas.

The first known settlement of the Batesville area was in 1810 near the mouth of Polk Bayou, and by 1819 the town had a ferry across the White River and about a dozen houses. The town was partially laid out in early 1821, and on March 3, 1822 a bill of assurrance was recorded and executed and the town's plat was laid out. Batesville became the county seat in 1821. In January 1822, Judge Richard Searcy opened the town's first state circuit court. The town's first post office was established in 1822, and in 1830 became the home of a county court. On 25 September 1836, shortly after Arkansas was granted its statehood, Governor Conway incorporated Batesville Academy, the state's first academy. In the past, the area in and around the city had extensive quarries of manganese ore, phosphate rock, sandstone, limestone, and marble.

Batesville currently has only one high school within the city limits, Batesville High School. Also, Batesville is the home of Lyon College, a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and noted for the annual Arkansas Scottish Festival each spring. In addition, the city is home to the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB), and NASCAR driver Mark Martin. It contains three National Register Historic Districts and many properties separately listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was listed in Norman Crampton's 1992 book The 100 Best Small Towns in America, ranking at #75.
