  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans

Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, normally takes 18 months to two years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to four years to complete and is more extensive in scope. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that are acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that Stockdale TX radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by taking part in an externship program which a large number of schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any certification or licensing requirements in Texas or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist program, depending on the state where you will be working you may need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements differ so check with your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several accept additional options for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. However, many Stockdale TX employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it might enhance your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Technician Schools

This is no different for online degree schools. So although you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is usually conducted in regional hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Stockdale TX home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree usually find that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are often cheaper than traditional alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be decreased also. But just make certain that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then online classes may be the best choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiographer Colleges

Once you have chosen the kind of degree that you would like to earn, you can initiate the process of looking for and evaluating Stockdale TX x-ray tech schools. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be important. The price of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a determining factor as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you look at when evaluating schools? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Stockdale TX health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the Texas xray tech programs you are reviewing have partnerships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Stockdale TX health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Stockdale TX healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they choose will have to be within travelling distance of their Stockdale TX home. Students who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Stockdale TX schools you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  program you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Stockdale TX, confirm that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.
