Irrespective of the name, they all have the identical fundamental job function, which is to employ imaging machines to internally visualize patients for the objective of diagnosis and treatment. Some radiologic technologists might also provide radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. Many elect to practice as generalists, while others may choose a specialty, such as mammography. They can work in Everett WA clinics, hospitals, family practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray tech may work with include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Sonography or ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy

Radiographers must maintain their equipment and regularly evaluate its performance and safety. They are additionally required to keep detailed records of all of their diagnostic procedures. As Everett WA health practitioners, they are held to a high professional standard and code of conduct.

X-Ray Technician Degree Options

Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to 4 years to complete and is more expansive in nature. Most students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are acceptable as well. Something to keep in mind is that Everett WA radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may frequently be fulfilled by taking part in an externship program which many schools sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing mandates in Washington or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-ray Technician Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, based on the state where you will be working you might need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their prerequisites differ so contact your state. Presently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number accept other options for testing also. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. However, numerous Everett WA employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it might enhance your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Tech Colleges

This is no different for online degree colleges. So even though you can still obtain your online degree, a substantial amount of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is typically conducted in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online segment of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your Everett WA home. Students who keep working while earning their degree often find that the online approach to education is far more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are frequently cheaper than on-campus alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be decreased as well. But just make sure that the online school you enroll in is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the ideal choice for you.

Topics to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

Once you have selected the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating Everett WA x-ray technician schools. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the school will be critical. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material variable as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the colleges you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of radiology tech schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous examination of their instructors and educational materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Everett WA employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the Washington radiology technician colleges you are evaluating have relationships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to get hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Everett WA healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that first job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Everett WA healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the school they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Everett WA residence. Students who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Everett WA colleges you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Everett WA, confirm that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Why Did You Want to Be a Radiology Technician?

When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's helpful to reflect on questions you may be asked. Among the questions that interviewers frequently ask radiographer applicants is "What drove you to choose radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is attempting to learn is not just the private reasons you may have for becoming a radiology technician, but also what qualities and skills you have that make you outstanding at what you do. You will undoubtedly be asked questions pertaining exclusively to radiography, in addition to a significant number of typical interview questions, so you should ready a number of ideas about how you want to respond to them. Because there are numerous variables that go into selecting a career, you can respond to this fundamental question in a multitude of ways. When preparing an answer, aim to include the reasons the profession appeals to you along with the strengths you possess that make you an exceptional X-Ray tech and the perfiect candidate for the job. Don't attempt to memorize a response, but jot down a few concepts and talking points that pertain to your own strengths and experiences. Some Background on Everett Washington

Everett, Washington

Everett is the county seat of and the largest city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States.[7] Named for Everett Colby, son of founder Charles L. Colby,[8] it lies 25 miles (40 km) north of Seattle. The city had a total population of 103,019 at the 2010 census, making it the 7th largest in the state and fifth-largest in the Puget Sound area. It received an All-America City Award in 2002.

Everett is home to the largest public marina on the west coast of the United States[9] and is the western terminus of the western segment of U.S. Route 2. It is also home to Boeing's assembly plant for the 747, 767, 777 and the new 787. Boeing's Everett facility is known for being the largest building in the world by volume at 116.5 million cubic feet (3,300,000 m3).

In 1984, Everett was selected as the site of a U.S. Navy Homeport, Naval Station Everett. The Naval Station formally opened in 1992 and on January 8, 1997 welcomed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln is no longer homeported in Everett as of Winter 2011. The aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz (CVN-68) replaced the Lincoln as Everett's homeported ship, as of March 9, 2012. In January 2015, the Nimitz moved to Naval Base Kitsap, but is expected to return to Everett in 2019[10]. Everett is also home to the Port of Everett, an international shipping port that brings trade, commerce, jobs and recreational opportunities to the city.

The land on which Everett was founded was surrendered to the United States by its original inhabitants under the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott.[11] Permanent settlement in the area by European descendants started in 1861 when Dennis Brigham built a cabin on a 160-acre (0.6 km2) claim on the shore of Port Gardner Bay. Over the next several years a handful of settlers moved to the area, but it wasn't until 1890 that plans for platting a town were conceived.

On July 17, 1890, The steamship Queen of the Pacific left Tacoma for an Alaskan cruise with Henry Hewitt, Jr. and Charles L. Colby aboard. During this "Fateful voyage" initial plans for an industrial city on the peninsula along the banks of the Snohomish river were formulated. On August 22, 1890, The Rucker Brothers filed their plat at Port Gardner, a 50-acre (200,000 m2) townsite on the bayfront side of what is now the city of Everett. This plat was later withdrawn to accommodate the plans of the Hewitt-Colby group.
