Currently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number accept additional options for testing also. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. However, many Spotsylvania VA employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might improve your career options to earn certification. Questions to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

After you have chosen the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and assessing Spotsylvania VA x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to determine if you want to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? A large number of radiology technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Spotsylvania VA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the Virginia xray tech schools you are evaluating have partnerships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to obtain hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Spotsylvania VA medical community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the radiographer programs you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Spotsylvania VA healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the college they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Spotsylvania VA residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Spotsylvania VA colleges you are researching what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the radiographer  school you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Spotsylvania VA, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family emergencies.

Some Background on Spotsylvania Virginia

Spotsylvania County, Virginia

Spotsylvania County is a county in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2016 estimate, the population was 132,010.[1] Its county seat is Spotsylvania Courthouse.[2] Spotsylvania County is a part of Northern Virginia and the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area.

At the time of European encounter, the inhabitants of the area that became Spotsylvania County were a Siouan-speaking tribe called the Manahoac.[3]

As the colonial population increased, Spotsylvania County was established in 1721 from parts of Essex, King and Queen, and King William counties. The county was named in Latin for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia Alexander Spotswood.

Many battles were fought in this county during the Civil War, including the Battle of Chancellorsville, Battle of the Wilderness, Battle of Fredericksburg, and Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. The war resulted in widespread disruption and opportunity: some 10,000 African-American slaves left area plantations and city households to cross the Rappahannock River, reaching the Union lines and gaining freedom. This exodus is commemorated by historical markers on both sides of the river.[4]

General Stonewall Jackson was shot and mortally wounded by friendly fire in Spotsylvania County during the Battle of Chancellorsville. A group of Confederate soldiers from North Carolina were in the woods and heard General Jackson's party returning from reconnoitering the Union lines. They mistook them for a Federal patrol and fired on them, wounding Jackson in both arms. His left arm was amputated. General Jackson died a few days later from pneumonia at nearby Guinea Station. He and other Confederate wounded were being gathered there for evacuation to hospitals to the south and further away from enemy lines.
