Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. Most students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that may be acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that River Rouge MI radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It can frequently be fulfilled by participating in an internship or externship program which many schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing mandates in Michigan or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, depending on the state where you will be employed you might need to be licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their prerequisites vary so contact your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but many offer additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. However, numerous River Rouge MI employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it might increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every 2 years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technologist Degrees

This is no different for online degree schools. So even though you can still earn your online degree, a significant portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Clinical training is typically conducted in regional hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online portion of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your River Rouge MI residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often discover that the online approach to learning is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online colleges are frequently less expensive than traditional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just confirm that the online college you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then online classes may be the right choice for you.

Points to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

When you have selected the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and evaluating River Rouge MI x-ray technician schools. You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you look at when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are considering.

Are the Radiology Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology tech schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of River Rouge MI employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the Michigan xray tech schools you are evaluating have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional relationships in the River Rouge MI healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Find out if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with River Rouge MI healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the school they choose will have to be within driving distance of their River Rouge MI residence. Students who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the River Rouge MI colleges you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology technician program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in River Rouge MI, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

Why Did You Decide to Become an Xray Technician?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's important to reflect on questions you could be asked. One of the things that recruiters frequently ask radiographer prospects is "What compelled you to choose radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is attempting to uncover is not just the personal reasons you may have for becoming an Xray technician, but additionally what attributes and skills you possess that make you outstanding at what you do. You will probably be asked questions relating specifically to radiography, as well as a significant number of typical interview questions, so you need to organize a number of ideas about how you would like to answer them. Given that there are so many factors that go into choosing a career, you can answer this primary question in a variety of ways. When readying an answer, aim to include the reasons the work interests you as well as the abilities you possess that make you an excellent X-Ray tech and the best candidate for the position. Don't attempt to memorize an answer, but write down some ideas and anecdotes that pertain to your personal experiences and strengths. Some Background on River Rouge Michigan

River Rouge, Michigan

River Rouge is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan and an industrial Downriver suburb of Detroit. The population was 7,903 at the 2010 census. It is named after the River Rouge (from the French "rouge" meaning red), which flows along the city's northern border and into the Detroit River. The city includes the heavily industrialized Zug Island at the mouth of the River Rouge.

The small settlement incorporated as a village in 1899 within Ecorse Township.[6] In 1922 as the city of Detroit expressed interested in annexing land in the township, the Village of River Rouge incorporated as a city on April 3 to avoid being annexed.[6] A month later Detroit completed annexation of land in the township immediately to the west of River Rouge.

One of the most important historical associations with River Rouge is its relationship to the Great Lakes freighter, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in 1975 in a fierce storm on the lakes, with the loss of all 29 crew. The ship was constructed in 1958 at the Great Lakes Engineering Works in River Rouge and was the largest ship on the lakes at the time.

The city had its peak of population in 1950, when industry was the mainstay of the local economy. Restructuring of heavy industry and movement of jobs offshore have taken a toll of the city; the loss of jobs resulted in loss of population. In 2015 the population is less than half of what it was in 1950. Many workers who had the flexibility to seek jobs in other areas moved away.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.24 square miles (8.39 km2), of which 2.65 square miles (6.86 km2) is land and 0.59 square miles (1.53 km2) is water.[1] Of the land area, 0.93 mi square mile (2.4 km²) consists of Zug Island.
