Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. Having said that, many Ellerbe NC employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might increase your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every 2 years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

But just be sure that the online college you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the best option for you.

Points to Ask Radiology Tech Colleges

Once you have chosen the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can initiate the process of searching for and evaluating Ellerbe NC x-ray tech schools. You will also have to decide if you want to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be a determining factor also. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you look at when reviewing schools? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Ellerbe NC health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Ask if the North Carolina xray tech schools you are assessing have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional relationships in the Ellerbe NC medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without support. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Ellerbe NC healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the school they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Ellerbe NC residence. Individuals who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of person that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Ellerbe NC colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  college you finally select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Ellerbe NC, verify that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
