Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among techs, normally requires 18 months to two years to complete based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that are appropriate as well. Something to keep in mind is that Bowie TX radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can often be fulfilled by taking part in an externship program which many schools sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification requirements in Texas or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician school, depending on the state where you will be employed you may have to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their criteria vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but several approve other alternatives for testing as well. Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. However, many Bowie TX employers would rather hire radiology techs that are certified so it could enhance your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Tech Schools

This is no different for online degree colleges. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is often carried out in regional hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online segment of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Bowie TX residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree typically discover that the online approach to learning is far more practical with their active schedules. Plus online programs are often less costly than conventional alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials may be lessened as well. But just confirm that the online program you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the best option for you.

Questions to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

As soon as you have selected the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and assessing Bowie TX x-ray tech schools. You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be critical. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be an important factor as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have received some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Bowie TX employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the Texas xray tech programs you are evaluating have associations with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Bowie TX medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be challenging without support. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Bowie TX healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they pick will have to be within commuting distance of their Bowie TX home. Those who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Bowie TX schools you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Bowie TX, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Why Did You Choose to Be an Xray Technician?

When preparing to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's important to review questions you could be asked. Some Background on Bowie Texas

Bowie County, Texas

Bowie County (/ˈbuːi/ BOO-ee[1]) is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 92,565.[2] Its legal county seat is Boston, though its courthouse is located in New Boston.[3] The county is named for James Bowie, the legendary knife fighter who died at the Battle of the Alamo.

Bowie County is part of the Texarkana, TX-AR Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Bowie County is not one of the seven prohibition or entirely dry counties in the state of Texas any longer. Both the city of Nash[4] and the city of Texarkana[5] (on November 6, 2013 and November 5, 2014, respectively) have since passed laws to allow the sale of beer and wine.

The farming Caddoan Mississippian culture dates as early as the Late Archaic Period 1500 BCE in Bowie County.[6] The Hernando de Soto expedition of 1541 resulted in violent encounters. Spanish and French missionaries brought smallpox, measles malaria, and influenza epidemics against which the Caddo had no immunity.[7] Eventually, these issues and problems with the Osage, forced the Caddo to abandon their reservations. Settlers had peaceful relations with the 19th Century Shawnee, Delaware, and Kickapoo in the area.

French explorer Jean Baptiste Bénard de La Harpe founded the military fort Le Poste des Cadodaquious[8] in 1719 . The fort remained in continuous use until 1770. The Red River Expedition[9] of 1806 which passed through Bowie County, headed by Thomas Freeman and Dr. Peter Custis, was of great diplomatic and economic importance to President Thomas Jefferson. Bowie County was established in December 1840 and named for James Bowie, reduced to its present size in 1846. DeKalb[10] was the temporary county seat, with Boston[11] becoming the permanent county seat in 1841.
