Radiology Tech Job Description

There are several professional titles for x-ray techs (technicians or technologists). They may also be referred to as radiologic technicians or technologists, radiology technicians or radiographers. Regardless of the name, they all have the identical fundamental job description, which is to use imaging machines to internally visualize patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. A number of radiologic technologists may also provide radiation therapy for treating cancer. Many choose to work as generalists, while others may choose a specialization, such as mammography. They can practice in Bisbee ND clinics, hospitals, family practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. The imaging technologies that an X-Ray technician might work with include:

  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays
  • Computerized tomography (CT) or “CAT” scans

  • Sonography or ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy

Radiographers must take care of their equipment and regularly assess its functionality and safety. They are also required to retain in-depth records of each of their diagnostic procedures. As Bisbee ND health practitioners, they must adhere to a code of conduct and a high professional standard.

X-Ray Technician Degrees Offered

Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, generally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more expansive in nature. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are appropriate as well. Something to consider is that Bisbee ND radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which many schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification mandates in North Dakota or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, depending on the state where you will be working you might need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number provide additional alternatives for testing also. A number of states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. However, numerous Bisbee ND employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it may enhance your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Technologist Classes

attending x-ray tech school online in Bisbee 58317As a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree colleges. So although you can still earn your degree online, a large amount of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often provided in area family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online segment of the training can be attended in the comfort of your Bisbee ND residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often find that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online schools are frequently cheaper than on-campus alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be reduced also. But just confirm that the online school you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online degree may be the ideal option for you.

Questions to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

When you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of searching for and evaluating Bisbee ND x-ray technician colleges. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray technician colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Bisbee ND employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the North Dakota radiology technician programs you are reviewing have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional connections in the Bisbee ND health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Find out if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Bisbee ND healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the college they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Bisbee ND home. Those who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Bisbee ND schools you are looking at what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the x-ray tech  program you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Bisbee ND, check that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

Why Did You Decide to Be an X-Ray Tech?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's advantageous to reflect on questions you might be asked. Among the questions that hiring managers frequently ask radiographer applicants is "What compelled you to pick radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is trying to discover is not only the private reasons you might have for becoming a radiology technician, but also what characteristics and talents you have that make you exceptional at your profession. You will likely be asked questions relating primarily to radiography, along with a significant number of typical interview questions, so you should prepare several strategies about how you would like to answer them. Since there are numerous factors that go into choosing a career, you can answer this fundamental question in a number of ways. Some Background on Bisbee North Dakota

Bisbee, North Dakota

Bisbee is a city in Towner County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 126 at the 2010 census.[5] Bisbee was founded in 1888.

Bisbee is located at 48°37′33″N 99°22′47″W / 48.62583°N 99.37972°W / 48.62583; -99.37972 (48.625959, -99.379609).[6]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2), all of it land.[1]

The town was named after Colonel Andrew Bisbee, a native of Peru, Maine. Bisbee, a veteran of the Civil War who came to Towner County in 1885. In 1890 he was chosen by the county commissioners of Towner County to solicit drought relief and was elected to a term in the North Dakota Senate. Col. Bisbee donated a portion of the townsite of Bisbee, as well donating land for the railroads to pass through the village.[7][8][9]

Bisbee was featured in the September 10, 2001 edition of Newsweek, discussing the slow, painful decline of the town since (at that time) even the mayor, Bob Weltin, was preparing to forsake what was left of the town and seek a better life elsewhere. Things Bisbee had lost over the years, according to the Newsweek article, included movies at Pettsinger's Theater, root-beer floats at Brannon's Drug and Soda Fountain, and groceries at Dick's Red Owl. At the time of the article, there wasn't a doctor, lawyer, plumber or priest in Bisbee anymore. Population had dropped more than 30 percent in a decade. At the time of the article, there were only 227 "hearty souls" hanging on for dear life in Bisbee.
