He was freed two months later when democracy was restored, but en route back to Britain he was arrested by the Turkish authorities, accused of spying for Soviet Russia.[8] He was held for five months, in grim conditions, with execution a constant threat.[9] He later wrote a book about his experiences, called Six Prisons and Two Revolutions.[6]
