The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but many approve additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. However, numerous Calumet OK employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive examination. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree often find that the online style of education is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are generally less expensive than traditional options. In addition to reduced tuition, costs for study materials and commuting can be decreased as well. But just make certain that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the ideal choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiographer Programs

When you have selected the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of looking for and assessing Calumet OK x-ray tech colleges. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining variable as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Colleges Accredited? Most radiology tech colleges have acquired some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive examination of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Calumet OK health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the Oklahoma radiology tech programs you are evaluating have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can assist graduates and students form professional relationships in the Calumet OK healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Calumet OK healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Calumet OK home. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Calumet OK schools you are considering what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  program you finally select can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Calumet OK, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's a good idea to review questions you may be asked.
