You will also need to determine if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you factor in when reviewing schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details before you make your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? Most xray tech schools have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous examination of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Watkins Glen NY health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the New York xray technician programs you are reviewing have partnerships with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent manner to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Watkins Glen NY healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the college they select will have to be within driving distance of their Watkins Glen NY residence. Students who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Watkins Glen NY schools you are reviewing what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  program you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Watkins Glen NY, make certain that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

Why Did You Desire to Become an X-Ray Tech?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's important to consider questions you might be asked. You will undoubtedly be asked questions relating exclusively to radiography, as well as a certain number of standard interview questions, so you should prepare several strategies about how you want to respond to them.
