X-Ray Tech Degrees Offered
The basic prerequisite for enrolling in a radiology tech program is to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, usually takes 18 months to two years to finish based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as four years to finish and is more extensive in scope. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be appropriate also. One thing to keep in mind is that Cuero TX radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may often be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their area. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing mandates in Texas or the state you will be working as applicable.
Radiologic Technologist Licensing and Certification
Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician school, based on the state where you will be practicing you may have to be licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number approve other options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as part of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Cuero TX employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it could improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every 2 years, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.
Online Radiology Technician Classes
As a part of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree colleges. So while you can still earn your degree online, a significant amount of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is usually provided in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online segment of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your Cuero TX residence. Students who keep working while earning their degree often find that the online style of education is far more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are frequently more affordable than conventional alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But just be sure that the online school you pick is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online school may be the ideal choice for you.
Subjects to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs
As soon as you have decided on the kind of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of locating and assessing Cuero TX x-ray technician colleges. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But along with cost and location, what else should you look at when comparing schools? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are assessing.
Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? Most radiology tech schools have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Cuero TX health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry level positions.
Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the Texas xray tech schools you are assessing have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to get hands on training in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Cuero TX health care community and help with obtaining employment.
Is Job Placement Help available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Find out if the radiographer schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Cuero TX healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.
Where is the College Located? For many students, the college they select will have to be within travelling distance of their Cuero TX home. Those who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.
How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Cuero TX schools you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray tech program as well.
Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the x-ray tech college you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Cuero TX, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.

Some Background on Cuero Texas
Cuero, Texas
Cuero (/ˈkwɛroʊ/ KWAIR-oh[3]) is a city in DeWitt County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,841 at the 2010 census.[4] It is the county seat of DeWitt County.[5] It is unofficially known as the "turkey capital of the world" (this is reflected in the Cuero High School mascot, the Gobblers). In 2010, Cuero was named one of the "Coolest Small Towns in America" by Budget Travel magazine.[6]
The city of Cuero had its start in the mid-19th century as a stopping point on the Chisholm Trail cattle route to Kansas. However, it was not recognized as a town until 1873, when it was officially founded. The city was named for the Spanish word meaning "hide", referring to the leather made from animal hides. The industry was extremely short-lived, however, and gave way to various forms of ranching. The city had several Old West gunfights related to clan feuding following the Civil War.
Cuero's population grew considerably in the 1870s and 1880s, as residents from the coastal town of Indianola, Texas, settled here after major hurricanes in this period destroyed sizeable portions of that city. Cuero thrived through much of the late 19th and early 20th centuries by the introduction and practice of turkey ranching in the area. Today, agriculture is still the primary industry in the region. Cuero is considered to be one of the top cattle producers and shippers in Texas.
Cuero is located east of the center of DeWitt County near the mouth of Sandies Creek, where it empties into the Guadalupe River.
U.S. Routes 87, 77 Alternate, and 183 pass through the city. All three highways follow South Esplanade Street into the center of town; US 87 then leaves town via East Broadway Street, while US 77A and 183 continue north out of town on North Esplanade Street. US 87 leads southeast 28 miles (45 km) to Victoria and west 87 miles (140 km) to San Antonio. US 77 Alternate leads northeast 16 miles (26 km) to Yoakum, and US 183 leads north 32 miles (51 km) to Gonzales. 77 Alternate and 183 together lead south 31 miles (50 km) to Goliad.
