You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining factor as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are considering.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have acquired some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed examination of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Pepin WI health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the Wisconsin xray tech colleges you are reviewing have partnerships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to obtain hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are additionally a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Pepin WI health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Pepin WI healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they decide on will have to be within driving distance of their Pepin WI residence. Individuals who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Pepin WI schools you are considering what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the x-ray tech  college you ultimately select can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Pepin WI, make certain that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Why Did You Decide to Be an X-Ray Tech?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's important to review questions you may be asked. Among the questions that hiring managers typically ask radiographer candidates is "What compelled you to pick radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is trying to learn is not just the personal reasons you might have for becoming a radiology technician, but additionally what attributes and abilities you have that make you good at what you do. You will undoubtedly be asked questions pertaining exclusively to radiography, along with a certain number of general interview questions, so you should organize a number of ideas about how you want to address them.
