  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays

Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to finish based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be acceptable as well. One thing to keep in mind is that Freedom WY radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any certification or licensing mandates in Wyoming or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist college, depending on the state where you will be practicing you might need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but many approve other alternatives for testing also. A number of states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. However, many Freedom WY employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technician Classes

attending x-ray tech school online in Freedom 83120As a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree colleges. So even though you can still obtain your online degree, a significant portion of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is often carried out in area family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Freedom WY home. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree typically find that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally cheaper than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be reduced also. But just confirm that the online school you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online degree may be the right choice for you.

Questions to Ask Radiologic Tech Schools

Once you have selected the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can initiate the process of locating and assessing Freedom WY x-ray tech colleges. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining factor as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these essential details prior to making your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are considering.

Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to confirm that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive examination of their teachers and course materials. If the college is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Freedom WY employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the Wyoming radiology tech colleges you are evaluating have partnerships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent manner to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional connections in the Freedom WY health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Freedom WY healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the school they choose will have to be within travelling distance of their Freedom WY home. Those who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Freedom WY colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  program you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Freedom WY, verify that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Why Did You Desire to Be a Radiologic Technologist?

When prepping to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's helpful to reflect on questions you might be asked. One of the questions that hiring managers typically ask radiographer applicants is "What made you choose radiography as a profession?". What the interviewer is trying to learn is not just the private reasons you may have for becoming an Xray technician, but also what attributes and abilities you possess that make you exceptional at your profession. You will probably be asked questions relating exclusively to radiography, in addition to a certain number of routine interview questions, so you need to organize a number of strategies about how you want to address them. Given that there are numerous factors that go into choosing a career, you can answer this primary question in a multitude of ways. When preparing an answer, attempt to include the reasons the work appeals to you in addition to the abilities you have that make you an excellent X-Ray tech and the ideal candidate for the position. Don't try to memorize a response, but take down several concepts and anecdotes that pertain to your own strengths and experiences. Reviewing sample answers can help you to prepare your own thoughts, and give you ideas of what to include to wow the recruiter.

Some Background on Freedom Wyoming

Michael Wyly

Michael Duncan Wyly (born c. 1939) is a retired U.S. Marine Colonel. In 1979, Colonel Wyly was head of tactics at the Amphibious Warfare School (AWS) where he, with John Boyd, introduced maneuver warfare.[1]

Wyly enlisted as a Marine private in 1957. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, in 1958 and graduated in 1962 as Second Lieutenant of Marines. He served as Jim Webb's company commander in the Vietnam War. He co-wrote the Maneuver Warfare Handbook for the Marine Corps with William Lind.

He was Executive Director of Bossov Ballet Theatre, a non-profit ballet company in Pittsfield, Maine until the end of 2013.[2] Wyly's role as director of a Ballet school is seen as unusual for a former Marine and has been the subject of articles in the Wall Street Journal, and the Christian Science Monitor.

Wyly's views were criticized in a July 1997 Atlantic Monthly article "The Widening Gap Between the Military and Society" by Thomas E. Ricks. "It is one matter to acknowledge that much in American society today is deserving of contempt. It is another matter to propose that the role of the U.S. military -- especially an all-volunteer professional military oriented toward conservative Republicanism -- is to fix those problems. Yet that is what some are doing." Ricks then quotes Wyly from the March, 1995, issue of the Marine Corps Gazette. "It is no longer enough for Marines to 'reflect' the society they defend, They must lead it, not politically but culturally. For it is the culture we are defending." [3]

Ricks goes on to quote Wyly "We must be willing to realize that our real enemy is as likely to appear within our own borders as without." He (Wyly) then took swipes at the two fundamental principles of U.S. military professionalism: unwavering subordination to civilian control and nonparticipation in politics. Ricks then quotes Wyly from a later article: "If our laws and self-image of our role as military professionals do not allow for [the recognition that the real enemy may be within] we need to change them." Ricks writes " Wyly raised the possibility that the Marines would refuse to enforce certain laws. Specifically, if Congress were to restrict gun ownership, then Marines would need to understand that "enforcing such a restriction could quickly make us the enemy of constitutional freedom."
