Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. Most students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that Greeley CO radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools offer through local hospitals and clinics in their region. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification requirements in Colorado or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician school, depending on the state where you will be employed you may have to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. Presently, all states that do require licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number approve additional alternatives for testing as well. Several states also require certification as part of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. However, many Greeley CO employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may enhance your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technician Classes

This is no different for online degree programs. So while you can still obtain your online degree, a considerable portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an externship off-campus. Clinical training is often carried out in local hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online section of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your Greeley CO residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree typically find that the online style of education is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online schools are generally less costly than conventional options. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials can be reduced as well. But just make certain that the online college you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the right choice for you.

What to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

When you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of searching for and assessing Greeley CO x-ray technician schools. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining factor also. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you should find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the Radiology Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have received some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous review of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Greeley CO employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the Colorado xray technician colleges you are assessing have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional connections in the Greeley CO healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Greeley CO healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they select will have to be within driving distance of their Greeley CO home. Those who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Greeley CO schools you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the x-ray tech  college you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Greeley CO, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.

Why Did You Decide to Be an X-Ray Tech?

When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech job, it's helpful to review questions you could be asked. One of the things that interviewers often ask radiographer candidates is "What made you select radiography as a career?". What the interviewer is trying to discover is not merely the private reasons you may have for becoming an Xray technician, but also what characteristics and skills you have that make you outstanding at what you do. You will likely be asked questions relating primarily to radiography, along with a significant number of typical interview questions, so you must organize a number of approaches about how you would like to address them. Given that there are numerous variables that go into choosing a career, you can answer this fundamental question in a multitude of ways. When readying an answer, try to include the reasons the profession appeals to you as well as the strengths you possess that make you an exceptional X-Ray tech and the ideal candidate for the position. Don't try to memorize a response, but write down some concepts and topics that pertain to your personal strengths and experiences. Going over sample answers can help you to prepare your own thoughts, and inspire ideas of what to discuss to impress the recruiter.

Some Background on Greeley Colorado

Weld County, Colorado

Weld County is one of the 64 counties of the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 252,825.[1] The county seat is Greeley.[2]

Weld County comprises the Greeley, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Denver-Aurora, CO Combined Statistical Area.[3]

On May 30, 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act created the Nebraska Territory and the Kansas Territory, divided by the Parallel 40° North (Baseline Road or County Line Road or Weld County Road 2 in the future Weld County). Present-day Weld County, Colorado, lay in the southwestern portion of the Nebraska Territory, bordering the Kansas Territory.

In July 1858, gold was discovered along the South Platte River in Arapahoe County, Kansas Territory. This discovery precipitated the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Many residents of the mining region felt disconnected from the remote territorial governments of Kansas and Nebraska, so they voted to form their own Territory of Jefferson on October 24, 1859. The following month, the Jefferson Territorial Legislature organized 12 counties for the new territory, including St. Vrain County. St. Vrain County was named in honor of Ceran de Hault de Lassus de St. Vrain, the French trader who established the first trading post on the upper South Platte River. St. Vrain County encompassed much of what is today Weld County.

The Jefferson Territory never received federal sanction, but on February 28, 1861, U.S. President James Buchanan signed an act organizing the Territory of Colorado.[4] On November 1, 1861, the Colorado General Assembly organized 17 counties, including Weld County, for the new Colorado Territory. Weld County was named for Lewis Ledyard Weld, a lawyer and territorial secretary. He died while serving in the Union Army during the Civil War.[5] Until February 9, 1887, Weld County's boundaries included the area now comprising Weld County, Washington County, Logan County, Morgan County, Yuma County, Phillips County, and Sedgwick County.
