  • Traditional and specialized X-Rays

Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, usually takes 18 months to two years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to complete and is more extensive in scope. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable also. Something to consider is that Madison AL radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It can often be fulfilled by participating in an externship program which many colleges sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in their area. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification requirements in Alabama or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

After you have graduated from an Radiologist school, based on the state where you will be practicing you might have to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their criteria vary so contact your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several approve other alternatives for testing as well. Some states also require certification as part of the licensing process, if not it is voluntary. Having said that, many Madison AL employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it may enhance your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every two years, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Tech Degrees

attending x-ray tech school online in Madison 35756As a component of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree colleges. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a significant amount of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Clinical training is usually provided in local hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. But the online segment of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Madison AL home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree often discover that the online style of education is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally less expensive than conventional alternatives. In addition to reduced tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be decreased as well. But just confirm that the online school you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online degree may be the ideal choice for you.

What to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

Once you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of finding and evaluating Madison AL x-ray tech schools. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the school will be critical. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But along with cost and location, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of xray tech colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive examination of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Madison AL health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the Alabama xray tech programs you are reviewing have relationships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to obtain hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Madison AL medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Ask if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Madison AL healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Madison AL home. Individuals who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Madison AL schools you are reviewing what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the radiographer  program you finally pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in Madison AL, make sure that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

Madison County, Alabama

Madison County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 334,811, making it the third-most populous county in Alabama.[3] Its county seat is Huntsville.[4] The county is named in honor of James Madison,[5] fourth President of the United States of America and the first President to visit the state of Alabama. Madison County covers parts of the former Decatur County.

Madison County is included in the Huntsville, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Madison County was established on December 13, 1808 by the governor of the Mississippi Territory.[1] It is recognized as the "birthplace" of Alabama, which was founded there on December 14, 1819. For much of the county's history, the economy revolved mainly around agriculture. Madison County was one of the largest cotton-producing counties in the state, and textile mills operated around the county.

This changed when a group of German rocket scientists, led by Wernher von Braun, came to Redstone Arsenal in 1950. They developed, among others, the Redstone rocket, which was modified to launch the first two Americans into space. Tens of thousands of jobs came to the area as a result of the Space Race, and the population of Madison County rose from 72,903 in 1950 to an estimated 2015 population of 353,089.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 813 square miles (2,110 km2), of which 802 square miles (2,080 km2) is land and 11 square miles (28 km2) (1.4%) is water.[6]
