Questions to Ask Radiographer Schools

Once you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of looking for and assessing Seal Beach CA x-ray tech schools. You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you consider when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have acquired some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Seal Beach CA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Ask if the California radiology technician programs you are assessing have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Seal Beach CA healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Seal Beach CA residence. Individuals who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit far in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Seal Beach CA colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the x-ray technician program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the x-ray tech  school you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in Seal Beach CA, make sure that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
