Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, generally requires 18 months to two years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to four years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that Lander WY radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may often be satisfied by taking part in an externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any certification or licensing requirements in Wyoming or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but several offer other options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Lander WY employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it may improve your career options to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also calls for re-certification every other year, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

You will also need to determine if you want to attend online classes or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a determining factor as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology technician colleges have earned some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still imperative to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous examination of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Lander WY employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the Wyoming xray tech colleges you are interested in have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may assist students and graduates establish professional connections in the Lander WY health care community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Lander WY healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Lander WY residence. Those who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Lander WY colleges you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the x-ray tech  college you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Lander WY, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

Some Background on Lander Wyoming

Lander, Wyoming

Lander is a city in, and the county seat of, Fremont County, Wyoming, United States. Named for transcontinental explorer Frederick W. Lander,[6] Lander is located in central Wyoming, along the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River. A tourism center with several dude ranches nearby, Lander is located just south of the Wind River Indian Reservation. The population was 7,487 at the 2010 census.

Lander was known as Pushroot, Fort Brown, and Fort Auger prior to its current name. The town was named Lander in honor of General Frederick W. Lander, a famous transcontinental explorer who surveyed the Oregon Trail's Lander Cutoff.[7] Several miles southeast of town near present-day U.S. Route 287 is the site of Wyoming's first oil well, circa 1884.[8] The town was incorporated in 1890.[9]

On October 1, 1906, Lander became the westward terminus of the "Cowboy Line" of the Chicago and North Western Railway, thus originating the slogan "where rails end and trails begin." Originally intended to be a transcontinental mainline to Coos Bay, Oregon, or Eureka, California, the line never went further west, and service to Lander was abandoned in 1972.[10]

Lander is where the first paid rodeo took place, which continues to this day in coordination with the town's raucous Fourth of July festivities.[9]

Lander is located at 42°49′59″N 108°43′57″W / 42.83306°N 108.73250°W / 42.83306; -108.73250 (42.833035, −108.732633).[11]
