Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that are appropriate also. One thing to keep in mind is that Niantic CT radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It can often be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local hospitals and clinics in their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any certification or licensing mandates in Connecticut or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but many accept other alternatives for testing also. Some states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Niantic CT employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could increase your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Points to Ask X Ray Tech Schools

When you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of locating and evaluating Niantic CT x-ray tech colleges. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you should find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the colleges you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? Most radiology technician schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Niantic CT employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the Connecticut xray tech colleges you are interested in have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to get practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist students and graduates establish professional connections in the Niantic CT health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Niantic CT healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the school they decide on will have to be within driving distance of their Niantic CT residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Niantic CT schools you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  college you ultimately pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Niantic CT, make certain that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family emergencies.
