Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in nature. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be appropriate also. One thing to bear in mind is that Dana Point CA radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can frequently be fulfilled by participating in an externship program which many schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any certification or licensing requirements in California or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, depending on the state where you will be practicing you may need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number provide additional options for testing also. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous Dana Point CA employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every two years, which can be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Technologist Schools

This is no different for online degree schools. So although you can still earn your online degree, a substantial portion of the training will be fulfilled either in a school lab or in an internship off-campus. Practical training is usually provided in local family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online section of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your Dana Point CA residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often find that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online colleges are generally more affordable than traditional options. In addition to lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be reduced as well. But just make certain that the online program you enroll in is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online school may be the best choice for you.

Points to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

After you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can initiate the process of finding and evaluating Dana Point CA x-ray tech colleges. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the school will be critical. The price of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But along with location and cost, what else should you look at when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these important details before you make your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? Most xray tech schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous examination of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Dana Point CA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the California radiology tech programs you are assessing have associations with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to receive hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional connections in the Dana Point CA health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without support. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are considering have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Dana Point CA healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the college they select will have to be within driving distance of their Dana Point CA home. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Dana Point CA colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the x-ray technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the radiographer  school you ultimately choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in Dana Point CA, verify that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.

Why Did You Choose to Be an Xray Technician?

When getting ready to interview for an X-Ray Tech position, it's a good idea to review questions you could be asked. One of the things that hiring managers frequently ask radiographer applicants is "What made you pick radiography as a career?". What the interviewer is hoping to uncover is not merely the personal reasons you might have for becoming an X-Ray tech, but also what qualities and abilities you have that make you exceptional at your profession. You will probably be asked questions pertaining specifically to radiography, along with a significant number of standard interview questions, so you must prepare several ideas about how you want to respond to them. Because there are several factors that go into choosing a career, you can respond to this fundamental question in a number of ways. When preparing an answer, attempt to include the reasons the work interests you along with the talents you possess that make you an excellent X-Ray tech and the ideal candidate for the position. Don't make an effort to memorize an answer, but jot down several concepts and topics that pertain to your personal strengths and experiences. Some Background on Dana Point California

Dana Point, California

Dana Point is a city located in southern Orange County, California. The population was 33,351 at the 2010 census. It has one of the few harbors along the Orange County coast, and with ready access via State Route 1, it is a popular local destination for surfing.

The city was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named after Richard Henry Dana, Jr., author of Two Years Before the Mast, which included a description of the area. Dana described the locale, including neighboring San Juan Capistrano, as "the only romantic spot on the coast".[9] Although Dana described the anchorage as poor, it is now a developed harbor and contains a replica of his ship, the Pilgrim. The Pilgrim is used as a classroom by the Ocean Institute, which is located at the harbor. This area is designated California Historical Landmark #189.[8]

Dana Point was a popular port for ships involved with the hide trade with nearby Mission San Juan Capistrano. Trading reached its peak in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1818, Argentine sailor Hippolyte de Bouchard anchored there while conducting his raid on the mission. Richard Henry Dana then visited the area in 1835 while serving aboard the sailing brig Pilgrim on her voyage along the California coastline.[8]

In 1923, Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler and General M. H. Sherman, director of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, created a major real estate group to develop what is known today as the Hollywood Hills. Sidney H. Woodruff, already a prominent Los Angeles homebuilder, was hired to lead the project.
