Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number approve additional options for testing also. Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is optional. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a material variable also. But along with location and cost, what else should you look at when comparing colleges? Well, you should ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of xray technician colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Manitou Springs CO health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Inquire if the Colorado radiology tech programs you are reviewing have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific way to obtain practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may assist graduates and students form professional relationships in the Manitou Springs CO medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new field can be challenging without assistance. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Manitou Springs CO healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Manitou Springs CO residence. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Manitou Springs CO colleges you are reviewing what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the x-ray tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  college you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in Manitou Springs CO, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.
